6) Workload

We keep the duties of our teaching assistants to under 10 hours per week including preparation time. Typically, a Ph.D. student will receive a research stipend (with no teaching duties) for at least two semesters. The duties that our teaching assistants usually perform are

• i) holding help sessions (assisting undergraduate students with their work)
• ii) holding recitation sessions for calculus classes
• iii) grading.

To give our senior graduate students some teaching experience, we allow and encourage them to teach a class.
